The Mighty Aussies!!!

Australia 279/7 (50 ov)

England 222 (44.0 ov)

Australia won by 57 runs

With the great efforts of the English bowlers, England managed to keep Aussies 102 for 4 at the end of 25 over’s in the last ODI at Perth on Sunday. Liam Plunket  provided England an early breakthrough followed by Michael Yardy taking two wickets and bringing  Aussies middle order  in trouble to 102 for 4.

It was difficult for the Aussies now to get the runs off James Anderson as he kept the pressure on the Aussies and he was soon rewarded with a wicket of Callum Ferguson as he edged the ball to the first slip. It became more difficult for Brad Haddin as he stayed long he was on back foot. Not only Haddin but the captain of the Only ODI Cameron white also struggled to get the runs in the beginning.

Australia’s run rate remained under four. Hussey’s half century again helped Aussies to get a good n strong total with the help of Adam Voges mighty 80 brought Aussies 279 for 7 at the end of the 50 overs.

England once again failed to get a good start as both the captain Strauss n keeper Davies were out for DUCK!!! Which left England 5 for 2 after 2 over’s. Trott and Pietersen tried to build a partnership but Jhonson was successful in getting the wicket of Trott when England were at 48 soon Pietersen and bell departed one by one keeping England in trouble with 64 for 5.

It was Prior n Yardy who showed a ray of victory for England by providing good 55 runs partnership between them. When Prior was on 39 the debutant Krejza struck for the Aussies and Prior was cought by Hussey and now English were 119 for 6. With Yardy still at the crease. Yardy and Wright showed some hopes for England but it was the debutant again who got Wright for 24 and gave breakthrough to the Aussies bringing England on back foot for 152 for 7.

Yardy now was the only man who can bat well for the England and to get victory but Plunket showed his signs of bat n created a good 8th wicket partnership of 48 with Yardy. But it was too late as England had finished almost everything and after 48 runs partnership they lost Plunket also for 20.England back to back lost their last two wickets also as they finished their innings with 222 all out.

Aussies won the last match n series with 6-1.Adam Voges was named Man of the Match for his awesome half century (80).

Sri Lanka wins…

Sri Lanka 199 for 2 (Tharanga 101*, Jayawardene 48*) beat West Indies 203 (Dwayne Bravo 39, Malinga 3-30) by eight wickets

Upul Tharanga cracked an unbeaten 101 to lead Sri Lanka an eight-wicket victory over the West Indies in the second one-day international.

The left-handed opener hit seven fours in his ninth one-day century as Sri Lanka achieved a rain-revised target of 197 with more than four overs to spare for a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.

The opening game of the series was abandoned due to rain on Monday. The final match will be played on Sunday.

Sri Lanka were earlier indebted to paceman Lasith Malinga (3-30) and off-spinner Muttiah Muralitharan (2-42), who bowled the tourists out for a modest 203.

The West Indies, put in to bat, put on 45 for the first wicket before losing openers Chris Gayle and Adrian Barath in the space of three balls.

Barath, who scored a century in the rain-hit opening match, was trapped leg-before for 12 by Nuwan Kulasekara, while Muralitharan removed Gayle (28) with his first delivery.

Darren Bravo put on 49 for the third wicket with Ramnaresh Sarwan (21) and 38 with Dwayne, but fell when looking well-set.

He hit two sixes off Muralitharan and one off left-arm spinner Rangana Herath before being trapped leg-before by Malinga, who struck again when he bowled Kieron Pollard for four in his next over.

Pakistan 268 for 9 (Shehzad 115) beat New Zealand 227 (Taylor 69, Guptill 65, Riaz 3-51) by 41 runs

Finally on track. After a long time, Pakistan has bagged a series win with a match to spare. Beating New Zealand at home just before the World Cup was just the encouragement they needed. A one man show by Ahmed Shehzad smashing 115 off 109 balls in a magnificent innings helped them bag this match. Though most of the top order has failed once again, it has comforted the selectors that they have not made a wrong choice in Shehzad.

With captain Vettori on the bench the New Zealand camp was on the weak end today. After taking down Pakistan for 268 for 9 wickets in their 50 overs, they faced a target of 269 on a rather sluggish pitch.

New Zealand chose to field on a sluggish pitch at Hamilton after winning the toss. After losing Kamran and Hafeez for short, the innings was stabilized by Shehzad with the help of the middle order. The middle order, comprising of Younis Khan, Misbah, Umar Akmal and captain Afridi altogether contributed a total of 102 runs. Mills, Oram and Styris managed 2 wickets each, while McCullum picked up 1.

On a slow track, the New Zealand side started their struggle. After losing Jesse Ryder for a duck, Guptill held the side with a much needed 65 off 70 balls. He was accompanied by Ross Taylor, who was captaining the side for the match scoring 69 off 91. Though the middle order collapsed badly leaving the side to a 41 run defeat. Wahab Riaz was the pick of the bowlers picking up 3 wickets while Afridi and Gul bagged 2 each.

With a series in their bags and just 15 days from the World Cup, it’ll be a real confidence booster for a side which has been sidelined for a long time by team imbalances and controversies. Pakistan will try to keep this plus point in their favor. New Zealand on the other hand will have to work hard to keep pace with the World Cup which is nearing them day by day.

Australia successfully chased their ever biggest target to beat England by two wickets in a thrilling sixth one-day on Wednesday.

It was Australia’s record run chase in an ODI and extended their lead over the tourists in the seven-match series to 5-1 with one game to play.

Captain Michael Clarke‘s late season return to form continued as he smashed 82 from 70 balls to lead the unlikely chase, with late support from David Hussey, who made 38.

Shane Watson, with 51 off 34 balls, got the home side off to a flying start in reply to what had the look of a match-winning total by England, before falling to the spin of Michael Yardy.

Mitchell Johnson was promoted to number four and made 57 before being stumped from the bowling of Kevin Pietersen, while the recalled Callum Ferguson was run out for 46.

An Australian win seemed unlikely after Trott’s second century of the series helped England post what was also their highest ODI score in Australia.

Trott continued his superb series by making 137, the English number three, the leading scorer for either side despite his team’s indifferent form.

Trott was offered good support by captain Andrew Strauss, who made 63 from just 69 balls, and Ian Bell, with 45 from 32 deliveries.

Trott, was earlier given out lbw on 82 to Shaun Tait but handed a reprieve after a review of the decision, reached triple figures for the fourth time in ODIs, having hit seven boundaries.
