IPL 2011 Review: Third Week

End of the 3rd week of the DLF IPL 2011. Result are as follow

Week 3 began with Kolkata and Bangalore against each other.RCB won the toss and invited KKR to bat first. KKR started well. Haddin and Kallis took the match good but Haddin fall soon. Good partnership f 58 runs between captain and Kallis showed they are not going to come in pressure easily. Kallis Gambhir and Pathan all played very well for their team they score 40 48 and 46. KKR scored 171 runs in their innings. RCB answered in much better way as done by KKR in return. Opener Gayle and Dilshan ruined the bowling plans of Gambhir. Gayle and Dilshan scored 123 runs together. Dilshan got out on 38 but Gayle was unstoppable he finished not out and scored 102* runs. RCB won the match by 9 wickets and C. Gayle was named Man of the Match.

Match 25, Mumbai vs. Chennai. CSK won the toss and asked Sachin to bat first. As Dhoni wanted his bowlers worked same for him, MI both the openers were out for just 13. MI’s were 13/2. Rohit and Rayadu formed a partnership of 61 runs for 3rd wicket brought MI back in the match. Not only with Rayadu, Rohit scored with Symonds even they both built the partnership of 87 runs and Rohit got out on 87. MI ended on 164 for 4. Chennai went through a disaster as they lost Vijay (12) and Raina (05) too. After losing 2 wickets Hussey and Badrinath kept CSK’s hope alive forming 60 runs partnership, te game wasn’t over yet. CSK had a long path to go on. As Hussey went again CSK started losing wickets on perfect intervals.  CSK lost 9 wickets for just 140 runs. CSK failed to get victory and ended their innings on 156. R. Sharma was named Man of the Match.

26th Match was to take between Punjab and Delhi. Punjab won the toss and decided to field. Delhi went off to a great start. Both the openers smashed KP bowlers as Gilly introduced them. DD scored the highest score of the IPL ever. DD scored the runs at the average of 11.55, total of 231 in 20 over’s. Both the openers were highest runs scorer of the team. Both the batsmen scored 77 each. Rao remained not out at 28. KP were well known for chasing big targets at this average but this time it was too big for them too. KP lost Paul for just 14. Gilly and Marsh took the match little away but Kumar got Gilly on 45 and KP were 97 for 2. It was Marsh who was standing and scoring runs as fast as possible as wickets were falling on regular interval. Marsh scored 95 of 46 balls with 9 fours and 6 sixes. KP ended on 202 for 06. DD won the match by 29 runs. Warner was named Man of the Match.

No.27 on board. DC vs. MI. Sangakkara won the toss and elected to field. They had good plans about MI and late only but they got MI 70 for 4. A 4th wicket was the last wicket of MI then a partnership between Sharma and Symonds. Sharma registered another fifty and Symonds remained unbeaten on 44. MI ended of 172 and the partnership of 102 between Sharma and Symonds was unbeaten. DC too started badly as MI did. MI recovered it before the time but DC failed to do so. DC were vanished by Malinga’s pace. DC ended on 135 for 8. Captain scored the highest No. of runs 34. Malinga grabbed 3 wickets and was named Man of the Match. MI won the match by 37 runs.

Match 5 of the week. Rajasthan to take on Kochi. RR won the toss and decided to invite KTK to bat first. KTK had no option of course. Nothing to talk about KTK batting order, they fall as the cycle stand one after the other. Parthive Patel was the top scorer from their side. He scored 32. In return RR went with a great start as openers Rahul and Watson built a 71 runs partnership and brought team to  the path of victory with no hesitation. RR lost two wickets but won the match at the end. Rahul scored 44 lead by Watson 49. RR won the match by 8 wickets. Warne was named Man of the match for his 3 wickets spell.

Match 29. Yuvraj vs. Dhoni. Yuvi winning the toss asked Dhoni to bat first. Dhoni again started well getting a good opening partnership helped Dhoni settle a good score. Hussey again scores his fifty. CSK scored 142 in 20 over’s. PW had to face one of the small targets of IPL.  PW couldn’t start as they wanted nor they could recover later on as Dhoni’s bowlers were on fire. PW kept on losing wickets one by one. Yuvraj was the top scorer with 34 runs but that failed as no one was there to support him. PW ended on 117 for 8. CSK won the match by 25 runs. M.Hussey was named Man of the match.

30th Match was to take on 26th April 2011. RCB vs. DD. RCB won the toss and invited DD to bat first. The decision seemed to be good as RCB started well grabbing some early wickets. Partnership between Rao and Hopes brought DD back in match. Hopes scored 54 while Rao got out for just 24. DD managed to score 160. Hopes was the top scorer followed by Captain Sehwag 25. Pathan and Nagar remained Nout out for 13 and 0. RCB too started badly losing Dilshan for 0. Kohli and Gayle got RCB to a great start after this. 82 runs partnership between Gayle and Kohli released much pressure from RCB. Gayle got out of 26 but Kohli continued. Not too much Kohli too after scoring 54 runs got out. RCB were 96 for 4 and soon 107 for 5. But it was too late for DD, as RCB were very near to their target.  RCB won the match by 3 wickets, captain Vettori and Mahmood remained not out for 18 and 13. V. Kohli was named Man of the Match.

Match 8 of the week. PW vs. CSK again. PW won the toss and decided to bat first. Decision according to pitch was not wrong but Dhoni knew very well how to use his bowlers and when, and he did it perfectly. D. Bollinger got 3 wickets and Yuvraj and R. Uthappa, were the only good scoring batsman in the team. Yuvi scored 62 not out and Uthappa was out on 31. PW ended on 141 for 6. CSK faced no difficulties in chasing such a small target of 142. Hussey got out early on just 9 but Badrinath and Vijay handled it very well. Later on Vijay too was out 31 and this was the last wicket for Chennai to fall. Raina and Badrinath finished the remaining match with ease. Badrinath scored 63 and Raina was on 34. CSK won the match by 8 wickets. D. Bollinger was named Man of the Match.

Match 9 of the week, it was KTK vs. DC. KTK won the toss and decided to field, asking DC to bat first. It was a disastrous start for DC as they lost 3 wickets for just 20. A 90 runs partnership between captain Sangakkara and White helped DC to come back in the match. Sangakkara scored 65 and white 31. DC ended for just 129 in their 20 over’s innings. It was known victory for KTK as chasing a target of 130 was never impossible in T20 match. But it’s the game of cricket anything can happen anytime. KTK lost their 6 top batsmen for just 11. Any team losing wickets for just 11 cannot recover and same happened with KTK. KTK got some partnership but Ishant and Steyn were on fire. Ishant got 5 wickets and Steyn 3. KTK were all out for just 74. R.Jadeja was the top scorer with 23 followed by Parera with 22. DC won the match by 55 runs. I. Sharma was named Man of the Match.

Last match of the week. It’s DD to take on KKR. Pathan brothers against each other. DD won the toss and decided to field. DD started well as KKR were in pressure when Irfan struck the early blow. Tiwary was the only batsman from KKR to pass fifty and he remained not out on 61. KKR scored 148. With Tiwary on top followed by Goswami 22. Again not a big target for any team. In spite of having such a strong batting line up DD failed to chase the target of 149. Sehwag was the only batsman to lay for long. He scored 34 and remained top scorer for his team. Iqbal got 3 wickets for KKR. DD finished on 131 for 9. KKR won the match by 17 runs. M. Tiwary was named Man of the Match.

Week 2 of the DLF IPL, It’s Rajasthan vs. Kolkata. KKR won the toss and elected to field first. RR started the game in pressure and till the end they were in pressure only, no one from the team scored more than 35 accept Rahul and Taylor, who scored 35 each. RR managed to score 159 in20 over’s.  In return KKR got a bad start as they lost Bisla for just 1, down came the captain Gambhir who had clear intensions on winning this easy match, Kallis and Gambhir formed the partnership 152 runs. Gambhir made 75* and Kallis 80*, KKR won the match by 9 wickets. Gambhir was named Man of the match.

Match 2 of the week, Kochi vs. Mumbai. KTK won the toss and elected to field. After a good start Mumbai lost their opener Jacobs for just 12. Mumbai were on fire Rayadu and Sachin were unstoppable both got a good partnership of 116 runs. Rayadu made 53 and was run out. Sachin made his first century in the IPL and was not out on 100. MI scored 182 in their innings. Kochi had not win any match yet and it felt as if this would continue but the openers changed the thinking of expatiators, McCullum and Jayawardane formed a partnership of 128 runs helped KTK to get victory easily. McCullum scored 81 and Jayawardane was out for 56. KTK were 156 for 2. Jadeja and Hodge finished the remaining match with no difficulties. KTK won by 8 wickets McCullum was named Man of the Match.

Match 3 of the week, It was Chennai vs. Bangalore. CSK won the toss and decided to bat, Hussey was sent as opener and Anirudha was to send later. This change worked as Dhoni wanted Hussey scored classic Half century to save his team from the danger. Hussey’s 83 helped Chennai scoring 183. In return RCB lost their hero in the first over itself Dilshan was out for duck nor Agarwal stayed for long he too was out for just 7. RCB were 17 for 2 soon they went 31 for 3 Kohli and AB showed some hope but a bad shot from Kohli ruined it all. Soon RCB perished one by one. AB was alone to fight and he too went for 65 just before the match got over. RCB ended 162 for 7. Hussey was named Man of the Match.

Match 15 of the IPL, Hyderabad vs. Punjab. Punjab won the toss and asked DC to bat first. DC lost Sohal on 13. Captain came in and built a good partnership with Dhawan. DC dint played as they should and kept loosing the wickets on perfect intervals DC ended on 165 for 8. KP blasted in return, opener Paul and Gilchrist smashed DC bowlers 136 runs, Gilly scored 61 and Paul was out for 75. KP won the match by 8 wickets. Paul was named Man of the match.

Match 16: Delhi vs. Pune. Delhi won the toss and decided to field. Pune batting first Pune scored 187, Captain Yuvraj was the top scorer with 66* and followed by Ryder 60. None other than these two batsmen played good in team. In return DD started well and got a opening partnership of 75 runs, as they lost Warner for 47. Within a no time DD were 120 for 5 and were in trouble but the partnership between Rao and Finch brought Delhi back in the match. DD won the match by 3 wickets. Warner was the top scorer with 47. Yuvraj Singh was named Man of the Match for his 66* and 4 wickets in his spell.

Match 6 of the week, Kolkata vs. Rajasthan. Rajasthan batted first after Kolkata won the toss and asked them to do so. It was shocking as Rajasthan lost their first wicket at 24 and 3rd at 38 and soon they were 5 down for just 67. It dint ended here as Rajasthan kept on losing a wicket time to time they 6th at 78 another at 79 and 2 at 80 and last at 81. Menaria was the top scorer with 21. In return KKR too lost their first wicket for Zero but they were not in so pressure as target was low. Gambhir and Tiwary finished the game with 54 runs partnership between them. KKR won the match by 8 wickets. Balaji was named Man of the Match.

Match 7 of the week, Kochi vs. Chennai. Kochi won the toss and elected to field first. CSK couldn’t start it well as they lost Hussey for just 8. Vijay scored 28 and Raina his Fifty. CSK completed their innings on 131 for 4 after 17 over’s. Yes the match was of 17 over’s because of rain taking place in between. Kochi started well, McCullum’s 47 and Patel’s 34 helped KTK get a 7 wicket victory over Chennai at end of the day. KTK won by 7 wickets and McCullum was named Man of the Match.

Match 19 of the IPL, Delhi vs. Hyderabad. DC won the toss and selected to bat first. DC lost their first wicket on 8 as Pathan struck Dhawan. Captain’s great 92 runs partnership with Sohal helped DC built a good score at the board, Sohal made 62 and captain was out for 49. DC finished their innings on 168 after 20 over’s. DD got a very bad start as they lost their captain for 12 and soon Ojha and Finch too departed for 2 and 0. Rao and Warner made a partnership of 52 runs but Rao was out for 21. Rao’s wicket brought end to Delhi’s hopes of victory. Delhi failed to register victory over DC in spite of Warner’s great half century. Delhi ended on 152 for 7. DC won the match by 16 runs. S. Sohal was named Man of the Match.

Match 20 was to be played between Bangalore and Rajasthan. The match was abandoned without a ball bowled because of rain. Both the teams were given 1 point each.

No. 10 of the week, Pune vs. Mumbai. Pune, winning the toss decided to go for bat. Pune lost their first wicket on just 16 and lost 4th on 17. Mishra and Uthappa tried a little but Mishra failed and was out on 52 for 5. Just after a while Karthik too went when PW were on 87. Pune were all out for 118, Uthappa scored the highest score of 45. MI tried Franklin at the opening and it got failed as Frank was out for just 06. Rayadu and Sachin went nicely in the match. Rayadu made 37 and Sachin made 35. MI won the match by 7 wickets Symonds and Sharma were not out on 16 and 20.Munaf Patel was named Man of the Match.

Match 22 was to take place between Kolkata and Kochi. KKR went to bowl after winning the toss. KTK got a good start both the openers gave a partnership of 49 runs as McCullum got out on 23. Soon captain too went on 25. KTK played moderately but kept on losing a wicket on perfect interval. KTK scored 132 with the loss of 7 wickets. Jadeja was the top scorer with 29. It wasn’t a challenging score for KKR was chasing 133 score is not at all big in T20. It was little different as KKR started losing their wickets one by one. Kallis got out soon Gambhir too got out and just after 10 runs Bisla too went pavilion. Wickets started perishing from one end and at other it was Tiwary who was still there for KKR. No one was there to support Tiwary at last he too got out for 46 leaving KKR behind to struggle. KKR finished their innings on 126 for 9 at the end of 20 over’s. KTK won the by match by 6 runs. Jayawardane was named Man of the Match.

Last match of the week, Punjab to take on Rajasthan. RR won the toss and decided to field. Again a good partnership between Paul and Gilchrist gave a great start to KP. KP lost captain Gilly on 27 then again a good partnership between Marsh and Paul but Paul to got out on 46. KP dint ended here one more long partnership of 70 runs between Karthik and Marsh helped KP reach the score of 195. Marsh made 71 runs of 42 balls. RR dint seemed to win the match from the beginning itself as they lost both the openers on 12 and 18. Soon on 47 Watson too departed. Binny and Menaria showed some hope with their 50 runs partnership but that wasn’t for long. Menaria’s 34 and Binny’s 30 went in vain as team failed to achieve victory and ended on 157 for 7. KP won the match by 48 runs. Marsh was named Man of the match.

Bisla got out for 27… Yusuf Pathan was sent next to finish it off but he failed to do so… Tiwary had got another chance to prove himself and he stood with Kallis for long and supported him but CSK were now unstoppable they struck again and got Tiwary back to back Morgan Gambhir and Shukla also went… Match was tied till last ball as KKR wanted 4 runs off last ball….
